Garth Falconer becomes number 5

Defender Garth Falconer has become Whitey Anderson's fifth signing of the January transfer window in addition to Stephen O'Flynn, Jake Dykes, Ryan Mayse and Ivan Sproule.

Falconer started the 2015/16 season at left back for Coleraine but the signing of another defender limited his first team appearances to 17 and he was subsequently released.

The 25 year old was previously part of a successful Newbuildings team before he moved to Dergview for the 2014/15 Championship campaign and has been sought by a number of clubs both in the summer and January transfer windows.

Anderson had tried to sign the defender at the start of this season, and has now finally got his man.

"I am delighted to announce the signing of Garth Falconer."

"I had spoken to him in pre-season but he chose Coleraine in what was a tight call. Garth is a quick attacking left back and it's an area where we need players playing in their natural position. Along with David Elliott we now have great competition and cover in a vital area."

"After his release from Coleraine, Garth had signed for Dergview but as he has not played or been registered, he can now play for ourselves and I would like to thank Dergview manager Richard Clarke for his understanding over this signing. Without doubt he will have been frustrated, but unlike many, he was able to see the bigger picture given his vast experience as a Premier League player at Portadown".
