Mallards exit NW Cup on penalties

FT Ballinamallard 1-1 Limavady (Limavady win 4-3 on penalties) Our defence of the North West Senior Cup comes to an end at the first hurdle, losing on penalties after extra time. After a scoreless first half the game picked up with McCartney hitting the crossbar with a free kick. Limavady were first to score through Dean Brown but the lead lasted only minutes with Darragh McBrien equalising, converting John Edgar’s cut ball. Ryan Campbell seen a header saved on the line before full time and despite heavy pressure from the home side in extra time they couldn’t find a way through. Greg Turley Memorial Cup

Immediately prior to kick off this evening we presented the Greg Turley Memorial Cup and I am delighted to announce that the winner this year is Daniel Hughes. Daniel is pictured receiving the award from Academy Chairman, Wesley Warrington with David Clarke providing a history and background to this most prestigious award via the PA to those in attendance. Daniel is a very worthy winner, having joined the club as a five year old he has progressed through our youth section and his commitment and loyalty to the club is without question. With a great attitude he is a fine ambassador for everything that we do in the youth section and has rightly earned this top award. Congratulations Daniel!

Mayse and McBrien stay on

Mallard supporters will be thrilled to hear that Ryan Mayse and Darragh McBrien have both committed to Ballinamallard despite interest from Premier League Clubs. Mayse, who joined in January on loan from Ballymena, has now made his move permanent but is currently recovering from a hamstring injury he picked up in a friendly against Enniskillen Rangers. Academy product McBrien burst onto the scene with a number of impressive performances, but his School Gaelic commitments limited his playing time last season.
