Penalty joy!

What a day in the history of Ballinamallard United FC. After an enthralling 120 minutes with Warrenpoint Town which remained scoreless, the Semi Final of the Tennents Irish Cup was to be decided by penalties. In truth neither side deserved to lose this game as both were evenly matched throughout, but somebody had to be the loser. The Mallards scored all five of their penalties, with John Connolly saving one of Warrenpoint's which sent Ballinamallard through to the Irish Cup Final for the first time in their history!

Mallards through to semis on penalties

McCartney didn't make any mistake next time around, thumping home a volley to equalise and despite chances for both sides the game went to extra time. Ally Taggert again put the hosts in front but in the final few minutes of extra time Joshua McIlwaine crossed for Ryan Campbell to head in and draw level.
