Ballinamallard 2-0 Warrenpoint

He said that we needed nothing less than a win, and Whitey Anderson had his wish come 5pm on Saturday.

Second half goals from Shane McCabe and Ryan Campbell helped the Mallards record a vital victory which moves them up to tenth in the table, and just one point behind Portadown in ninth.

Both the Mallards and Warrenpoint were desperate for victory to ease their relegation worries and the first half was a cagey affair with a sprinkling of drama.

With eight minutes on the clock, the 'points Stephen Hughes was shown a straight red card by referee Andrew Davey after he handled on the line to prevent a goal. However visiting goalkeeper Jonathan Parr was able to save Jason McCartney's penalty and keep the scores level.

Stephen Murray almost gave the County Down side the lead on 36 minutes, but his thunderous strike bounced back off the crossbar and was hooked to safety whilst Martin Murray also went close, as did Johnny Lafferty for Ballinamallard at the other end.

The home side started the second half with an increased tempo and it was to pay dividends on 47 minutes when Shane McCabe struck a wonderful shot in off the right post to give his side the lead.

The game had further drama on 55 minutes with another red card, this time for Ballinamallard. Ivan Sproule was deservedly given his marching orders after a rash and needless challenge on the half way line.

The home side scored again however on 62 minutes when Ryan Campbell stabbed in Emmet Friars knockdown to leave the score at 2-0.

Barry Gray made a double substitution in a desperate effort to get back into the game, introducing strikers Mulvenna and McMurray but it was to no avail as Ballinamallard comfortably held on for victory.

The winner of the half time draw was ticket number 11762 and was claimed by Francy Noble.

Elsewhere, the Thirds recorded their eighth straight league victory with a 4-2 win over Moyola Youth with goals from Coalter 2, Cadden and Thompson. Derek Sharpe's side can secure the title with a win next weekend.
