Mallards knocked out on penalties

For the second time this season, Ballinamallard have exited a cup competition on penalties.

The Mallards looked to be cruising into the sixth round of the Tennent's Irish Cup, with first half goals from Ryan Campbell and Adam Lecky, with the latter also hitting the post, but Coleraine scored two late goals to force extra time.

Central defender Steven Douglas clawed one back on 85 minutes with a long range strike, and then Ruiari Harkin done the same on 93 minutes.

With the sides not able to be separated in extra time, the match went to spot kicks.

Sammy Morrow opened the scoring for Coleraine and Emmett Friars shot wide. Higgins got a second for Coleraine and McCartney responded in due fashion, off the left upright. Harkin scored a third, as did Adam Lecky with Lydon Kane scoring the fourth meaning Ryan Campbell had to score, but his spot kick was saved.

At Fisher Park, the Seconds almost snatched a point having gone 4-0 down. James Edgar, Jordan Cadden and Ryan Mayse all scored in the second half but despite an almighty push, they couldn't find an equaliser.
