Ballinamallard 0-2 Ballymena
A goal in each half was enough for David Jeffrey's side to squeeze into the Semi Finals of the Sadlers Peaky Blinder Irish Cup.
Josh Kelly put the visitors ahead on 15 minutes, connecting with a cross from the right and lobbing the ball over John Connolly. It was certainly a goal against the run of play with the Mallards going close through John Edgar, Ryan Campbell and Nathan Cashel.
Despite the terrible conditions and tricky surface Harry McConkey's men were much easier on the eye than their opponents but couldn't quite make it count in the final third. The closest they came was a shot cleared off the line just before Ballymena doubled their advantage 10 minutes from time. Adam Lecky took a tumble in the box and without hesitation, referee Keith Kennedy pointed straight to the penalty spot. Despite John Connolly getting close, Tony Kane netted high into the top right hand corner to make it 2-0.
The Mallards can be extremely proud of their effort and commitment today and will now solely focus on their title challenge as we attempt to return to the Premier League.
With Portadown being beaten on Friday evening, we are 9 points behind but with 2 games in hand.
Best wishes to Ballymena for the remainder of the competition and thank you to all who came to Ferney Park on a horrible afternoon 🌧
