Ballinamallard 2-0 Dundela

The good times keep on coming for Ballinamallard whose faint promotion playoff hopes are still alive after victory this afternoon.

The Mallards need to finish ahead of Portadown who are 6 points ahead of us with 3 games remaining. It's a tough ask, but with the way our season has gone, who would rule it out!

After a relatively quiet first 45 minutes at Ferney Park the game remained scoreless at the break. Karl Devine went closest to scoring for Dundela on 7 minutes when he smashed a shot off the crossbar whilst the Mallards best effort came from Ryan Campbell which ended up in the side netting.

Jordon Morrison and Daniel Burns both were off target after half time for Dundela whilst Carl McComb drew a fine save from goalkeeper John Connolly, down low to his right.

The opening goal came on 57 minutes when a long hopeful ball forward was controlled by Nathan Cashel who went one on one with the goalkeeper. A heavy touch seemed to make Jonathan Sergeant favourite to gather the ball first, but just when it seemed he had the ball under control, he collided with Cashel and a penalty was awarded much to the anger of the visitors. Richard Clarke tucked it away for his fifth of the season.

Championship Player of the Month for March, John Connolly, was in sparkling form and denied Matthew King, Morrison and McComb as Dundela searched for an equaliser whilst Ryan O'Reilly should have extended Ballinamallard's lead on 75 minutes when he got on the end of a Jason McCartney free kick, but he couldn't find the target from 6 yards out, shooting over the bar.

A second goal did arrive on 84 minutes after good work from substitute Sam Robb found Joshua McIlwaine who controlled and shot past Sergeant for his fifth of the season also.

Both keepers produced fine saves towards the end of the match as it remained 2-0.
