More contract news

As the start of the Bluefin Sports Championship creeps ever closer, manager Harry McConkey has been fine tuning his squad for what is set to be an ultra competitive season. Last night the Mallards played their penultimate pre-season match against Junior Cup winners Enniskillen Rangers, winning 4-2 and getting more valuable minutes under the belt. After the match, McConkey agreed terms with a few more players who have been training and playing with the squad for several weeks now.

I am pleased that Ross Taheny, Darren Teague, Chris Kelly and John Edgar have all agreed terms for the upcoming season and are committed to the challenge ahead with Ballinamallard United FC. Ross is a top defender with a lot of potential and overall a great guy. He played out of position for me at the end of last season without a complaint and I know he will play a big role for us this season. Darren Teague is someone that you will all be familiar with; he has been with the Club previously and has great experience at Junior and Intermediate level. Midfielder Chris Kelly has also agreed to come on board having been a key player for Steve Feeney’s Junior Club in Sligo, Carbury FC. He is 31 and was with the Mallards for a short period of time in 2012 and like Darren Teague he will be a great asset on the pitch and in the changing room. Finally, former youth player John Edgar returns to the Club having spent time at Mountjoy and Dergview. He is a real honest box to box midfielder with an eye for goal” commented McConkey.

McConkey also had news of one player who has been released from the Club, and one that we wish well for the future.

Unfortunately, and with a heavy heart, I have released Gary Armstrong after 2 seasons at the Club. In May I asked him to come back to the Club and have a real go at things in the friendlies that we had lined up against Premiership opposition and that we would review things at the end of July. Gary is a technically gifted player and has been outstanding in our training sessions but has not been able to reciprocate that form in match play. I would like to personally thank him for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future”.

Pre-season continues with our final match this Saturday away to Annagh United before the league kicks off on Saturday 11th August at home to Limavady United.
