However the turning point was being reduced to 10 men when McIlwaine was sent off for two yellow cards and two rash challenges just before half time.

Ryan Curran went close on several occasions, Jonny Leddy had a header cleared off the line and Hogg produced a magnificant save to deny Matty Smyth but with 5 minutes to go, Jonny Frazer headed in for Ards, before Michael McLellan added another on the counter attack.
