Mallards do the double over Glenavon

Saturday turned out to be one of those rare afternoon's when both the Firsts and Seconds win.

Gavin Dykes looked for a response to last week's defeat to Coleraine and he certainly got it! The Fermanagh side, who debuted their new away kit, rode their luck at times, but also earned it with a hard working performance.

The home side seen a series of corners in the first half, with Simon Kelly and Fabio O'Brien both seeing their efforts cleared off the goal line, but the Mallards held firm until half time.

Glenavon introduced the trio of McCourt, Braniff and Hall in the second half and it looked like another hard luck penalty story for Ballinamallard when the Lurgan Blues were awarded a spot kick by referee Raymond Crangle. However former Glenavon keeper James McGrath denied the ex-Celtic player with a fine save to keep the scores level.

The home side pushed for a winner but in the 92nd minute, Simon Kelly fouled Adam Lecky and the Mallards were awarded a penalty. Lecky fired the ball down the centre of the net for his fourth of the season and snatch Ballinamallard's first victory of the season!

On Fisher Park, the U20s also recorded a win over Glenavon. Callum Frempong, Ben McCann and Joshua McIlwaine gave them a 3-0 victory.

Next up is a home match this Friday evening against Ards. Kick off is 8pm.
