Linfield 0-1 Ballinamallard

Linfield might have stole the pre-match limelight with the introduction of David Healy as manager, but the Mallards upset the party with a 1-0 win at Windsor Park on Wednesday evening.

Johnny Lafferty scored a second half winner when he volleyed in at the back post to send Ballinamallard into the quarter finals of the JBE League Cup.

Linfield started the game brightly and created a host of chances but came up against a resolute Mallards side. Whitey Anderson's men fought their way back into the game however and ended the first half strongly, with chances for Campbell and Martin.

Again the 'Blues' started the second half well but it was Johnny Lafferty who grabbed the opening goal on 70 minutes. An inspired Alvin Rouse kept Linfield at bay but then had to be replaced by Stefan McCusker after picking up an injury, and the away side held out to book their place in the quarter finals, with the draw to follow on Saturday evening.
