Glentoran 0-2 Ballinamallard

Ballinamallard recorded their first ever league victory over Glentoran in 11 attempts, thanks to goals in either half from Johnny Courtney and Cathal Beacom.

It was only the Mallards second win of the season, after an opening day victory over Warrenpoint, and they now move up to tenth in the table and just one point behind Carrick Rangers in ninth.

Johnny Courtney was the only change from last week's starting team against Cliftonville, and it was the youngster who gave the away side the lead on 41 minutes, when he cooly slotted under Aaron Hogg after being set free in the penalty area by Cathal Beacom.

Beacom himself then got on the scoresheet on 55 minutes, when his low free kick found the bottom corner of the net for his first goal of the season.

In truth, the game wasn't a classic, but the Mallards showed plenty of effort, grit and determination to earn the 3 points, and they will now go into Wednesday evening's encounter at home to Glenavon with plenty of confidence and seeking another victory.
