Ballinamallard 1-3 Carrick Rangers

Newcomers Carrick Rangers easily swept away a lacklustre Ballinamallard at Ferney Park on Saturday. The victory was all too easy for the visitors who should have added to their total of three.

Carrick started the better side and took a deserved lead on 31 minutes, when Kyle Cherry scrambled the ball over the line after Rouse failed to hold. Things went from bad to worse then on 40 minutes when Miguel Chines intercepted Emmet Friars backpass to keeper Rouse, and emphatically fired into the net.

Whitey Anderson made a double substitution at half time, with the introduction of Johnny Lafferty and Johnny Courtney for Adam Lecky and Michael McCrudden, but Carrick should have made it three minutes after half time when Cherry fired wide with an open net.

The home side did improve after the break, with Courtney firing the ball across goal, but with nobody to finish it off.

On 63 minutes Carrick had captain Aaron Harmon sent off for an attempted headbutt on Liam McMenamin, who escaped with a yellow card after his late challenge sparked the confrontation.

Anderson made his move with Feeney replacing substitute Courtney, but it was to no avail, as the Mallards yet again gifted their counterparts a goal, with Mark Surgenor's long range effort skimming off the surface and passed Rouse.

The home side made a late rally and did pull a goal back from the penalty spot on 80 minutes, with McCartney converting after Lafferty was fouled, but it made no difference to a bad day at the office.

Elsewhere, the thirds got off to a winning start in the IFA Youth League Section B, with a 1-0 win over Warrenpoint Town.
