With the departure of Mark Stafford this summer, the Captain's armband was up for grabs, and it has been handed to the man who ended the 2014/15 season with it on his arm; Steve Feeney.
The popular Sligo man is now entering his fifth season with the club, having initially signed prior to the Championship winning year of 2011/12. In that period of time he has played right through the spine of the team, but appears to have now settled at centre back.
Feeney has a wealth of experience behind him having spent eight seasons at Sligo Rovers in addition to time at Athlone Town, Monaghan United and Galway Town. He recently passed the 100 appearances mark for the Mallards, helping with a goal in a 2-1 win over Coleraine in February this year.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish Steve and the rest of the squad the best of luck for the season ahead.
